Project Description

The Sacramento River Revetment Restoration project involved placing rip-rap (rock) on the levee and removing vegetation along the Sacramento River. This project stabilized the river banks, reduced erosion, and managed vegetation growth.

This restoration work protected the integrity of the levee system and maintained the river channel. By reinforcing the levee with rip-rap and clearing vegetation, the project enhanced flood control and riverine management in the area.

Project Description

Alameda Marina Redevelopment Waterfront/Seawall Improvements. Provided Preconstruction Services – design assist services for detailed design development of the shoreline structure, sea level rise protection improvements and marina upgrades.

Major Challenges

Working adjacent and with other Contractors and Alameda Marina Boaters, ongoing design by SGH during construction and providing constructibility feedback. Project had tight access for pile driving rig on Seawall 1 and pile material lay down area (drive piles with crane on mats due to underlying soil and proximity seawall). Security issues – Stolen tools from conex and equipment tampering. Working in the tidal zone reaching compaction and planning under deck work with sufficient headroom.

Project Scope

Work consisted of Boat Hoist, Outfalls, Seawalls, Promenade Wharf Retrofit, Building 14 Retrofit, Graving Dock, Rip Rap Slopes, Pedestrian Bridge.

Project Description

Place Drain Rock at land side toe of levee as ballast to prevent slope slippage.

Major Challenges

Marina located at job site prevented direct placement by barge.

Project Scope

To off load 5,400 ton of Drain rock by barge into 10 wheel dump trucks, haul to job site 1 mile away and place as per lines and grades with dozer. Place stabilization fabric and to install water lines.

Project Description

The project consisted of designing and constructing new berths for ferry vessels to accommodate maintenance and passenger service activities.  The berths are comprised of precast concrete floats with a steel superstructure to match the vessel freeboard in addition to a re-furbished steel hull service float.  All floats are secured in place with driven steel pipe pile.  The project also included fabricating a new spare steel hull passenger loading float that can be utilized at multiple WETA facilities in the bay.

Major Challenges

One of the major challenges faced by the design-build team was the design, fabrication and launching of the concrete floats. The challenge was designing the concrete floats so that they could be lifted and lowered into the water using the equipment provided by the pre-caster. KPFF, Dutra, and Kie-con worked collaboratively to create a quality float design that was cast monolithically. Another major challenge was coordinating the multiple final designer’s efforts coupled with multiple bridge designer’s product. The challenge was overcome through partnering communication and collaboration.

Project Scope

  • Install 23 steel pipe piles ranging from 24” to 42”.
  • Fabricate and install 6,185 sf of concrete floating docks.
  • Drydock and modify existing 4,080 sf steel Service Float.
  • Install landing platform and 90’ gangway.
  • Install power, lighting, and mechanical systems.
  • Fabricate and install steel superstructure with 2 movable ramps for passenger loading.
  • Fabricate new steel hull passenger float.

Project Description

This design-build project consisted of designing the new marina, demolishing the existing wood docks, piles and gangways, and dredging to a depth of -12 feet. Over 100,000 cubic yards of sediment were removed, with disposal of 15,000 cubic yards of contaminated material at an upland site.

The project consisted of furnishing and installing new concrete docks to create 385 slips of various lengths and widths, driving over 400 piles, upgrading utilities services, and building a fixed sheet pile wall breakwater. The capstone of the project involved design, fabrication and installation of a 225 foot floating wave attenuator to protect the marina entrance.

Major Challenges

Keeping the marina operational and existing facilities intact during construction was a major challenge. Dutra implemented a strategic project phasing plan that allowed for up to two hundred boats of varying lengths to remain inside the marina throughout construction.

Project Scope

Demolition of existing floating docks, piles and gangways.

Fabrication and installation of new floating concrete docks to create a modern 385 slip state-of-the-art marina.

Replacement and reconfiguration of the gates, platforms and gangways.

Dredging, capping, and upland disposal of contaminated sediments.

Seawall repair and new seawall construction.

Fixed sheet pile wall and floating concrete breakwater construction.

Installation of a new sewer pump out station.

New electrical, water and communication services; fire suppression systems, security system and lighting service on all docks.

ADA access to several slips.

Landscaping.

Renovation of the Harbormaster building.
