San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge Self-Anchored Suspension Span
Location: Yerba Buena Island and Oakland, CA
Owner: California Department of Transportation
Company Role: Joint Venture with Traylor Brothers, Inc. as a Subcontractor
to American Bridge Fluor JV
Contract Amount: approximately $40,000,000.00
Anticipated Project Duration: February 2008 – September 2009
Purpose: Construct temporary marine foundations that will support falsework
for the new self anchored suspension span of the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge
Construction Activities:
- Construct 12 footings on Yerba Buena Island to support Towers A, B, and C.
- Completed work on marine foundation for Tower D.
- Installed two driving frame sections, consisting of 8 – 42 inch diameter steel
pipe piles driven into the bay floor, on either side of the T1 suspension tower
- Installed 12 large concrete fender panels on to sides of driving frame sections,
largest panel is 80 ft long and weighs 160 tons.
- Setting a temporary marine platform which includes two structural steel jackets
with pile sleeves by using eight 150-ton capacity jacks.
- Drive, weld and grout steel batter piles to structural steel jackets for temporary
marine platform.
