Oakland Turning Basin
Project: Widening of Inner Harbor Turning Basin, Port of
Oakland Phase 1B - Bulkhead, Dredging, and Demolition of
Piers 2 & 5

Purpose: To widen and deepen the turning basin fo the Port
of Oakland's inner harbor, where 1000-foot long container ships
turn 180 degrees and head back to the sea. Another purpose is
to build a useable seawall for existing tenants (Zaccor Industries,
Seaway Towing, Marine Express and Bay Ship and Yacht).
Construction Activities:
- Build new containment dike at Berth 10 for dredge spoils
- Dredge approximately 97,000 CY of Young Bay Mud to a depth of -42 feet. Offload spoils at Berth 10, dry, and
deliver to upland disposal site
- Dredge approximately 58,000 CY of San Antonio Formation / Old Bay Mud and dispose off shore
- Drive Bulkhead Combination wall (~1100 LF). Wall consists of PSP 1035 and PSP 900 king piles, PZ 35 sheet
piles, and Spin Fin tie back piles
- Weld plates and studs to connect tie back piles with bulkhead
- Build concrete pile cap (~900CY)
- Install a rock buttress on waterside of bulkhead (~27,500 Tons)
- Demolish and rebuild a portioni of Pier 2 and Pier 5
